A Peek Into My Craziness:)

Since you’ve seen me in a bikini I might as well show you a peek into my craziness!  I know everyone is crazy, running faster then the speed of light with not enough hours in the day to get it all done.  I can sympathize with all of you, that is why I meet with God at 5am every morning #1 It’s quiet, #2 No distractions and the most important #3 I’m a train wreck without Him!

Something He is teaching me right now is “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”  Ephesians: 4 22-24  Isn’t that awesome to know that if we don’t put off our old self we will continue to be corrupted by our deceitful desires but if we put on our “new self” that we are created to be like God.  This is exactly what happens to me when I don’t have time to read my bible or just have a quiet time with God, I easily fall back to my former way of life.

After God teaches me something new and I pray for motivation to move my body I give 100% to my workout (most of the time).  For me it’s not about being the strongest or fittest but being the best I can be.  Here is a peek at our craziness at the gym!  Just jump over something, the bigger the betterSmile

When I get home at 7am I wash the gym germs off my hands and it is breakfast for the troops and getting my husband off to work.  My breakfast has been the same for a while because I LOVE it!!!

You can read the details here!family

Then it’s on to home schooling my crew!     It’s a long story about how I ended up home schooling but we love it!  I won’t bore you with all the details but just know it’s a little crazy!

Time for lunch!  Food is constant in my house between prepping, cooking, cleaning, and eating it’s a full time job.  So the only way we eat healthy and I don’t lose my mind is making a ton of food at once.  Monday is usually our big cooking day, this week we grilled up 4lbs of homemade turkey burgers, 5lbs of chicken, tons roasted veggies, a rice cooker full of brown rice and a couple cups of Quinoa.  It sounds like a lot, but it makes the rest of our week so much easier and it’s nice having all those healthfridgey options just waiting for us!

You’ve seen me in a bikini, now I’m showing you my fridge. Here it is, stocked up for the week, packed to the brim and in just a few days it will be close to empty. One of my favorite things to have on hand that everyone loves including Paige is our veggie filled turkey burger courtesy of my sister in California.  Paige and I eat our turkey burgers mashed up in brown rice or Quinoa with a bunch of cooked veggies thrown in, it’s a microwave meal in minutes!  My husband takes them to work and my kids love them on a bun with ketchup!

This is the recipe and on a side note when I shred my veggies I do half coarse (or larger) and half finely shredded.

I’m tired and I only got to lunch, so later this week I’ll give you a peek at the second half of my crazinessSmile

Don’t try and be perfect just be the best you can be!

The Road To Success

Everyone gets discouraged. When the scale doesn’t move, you aren’t seeing any changes, and a moment of eating the wrong things and missing a workout can throw off your whole week, but don’t let it!!!  When you start to feel discourage, or doubt slips into your mind, stop and counter those thoughts with trladderuth.  The truth is, every day you make a positive choice you are better then you were yesterday, and every step up the ladder of success you get closer.  Stop looking at the end result as the goal and start looking at every positive choice as something you’ve conquered.  Don’t aim for perfection but “Be the Best You Can Be”.  One day at a time and one choice at a time.

I (Shannon) will be posting my story in the next couple days and I’ve got to tell you this could be the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.  I spent my life discouraged A LOT over my weight and it goes way back!  The issues were deeper then I even knew and sharing my journey, as hard as it is will hopefully help someone. I know now that it isn’t about wearing a size 2, and it’s not about winning a race, this is about being the best version of me I can be.  I limited what I was capable of and more importantly what God is capable of !

One of my first mountains on this journey was vegetables.  I honestly didn’t like them unless they were smothered in cheese or covered in butter.  I started by adding shredded zucchini into things like chili and pasta sauce and using spinach in my salads (hiding them like a little kid).  One of my favorite veggie sides is mashed cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes. Now I really LOVE cauliflower (honestly I can’t even believe I just typed that)  Here are some ways I love my veggies!

Collages

If you have any delicious ways you eat your veggies we would love to hear them!  Also, I want to know what some of your mountains have been on your journey to success!

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Who’s Ready for an Amazing Week?

Are you ready?  We’re ready, let’s motivate each other and all those around us to make God proud!

We have a great quick video for you that puts everything into perspective.  We don’t exercise and eat well to be super models but to bring glory and honor to God.  He gives us one amazing body to use for this short time on earth and He tells us, “  19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”1 Corinthians 6:19-20. Let the focus of the week be on making God proud with our choices!

We love Francis Chan!!

It’s hard to follow that amazing teaching but now it’s time to move our bodies!!  I have a simple challenge for you 100 burpees, 100 push ups, and 100 sit-ups you can break it up however you need to but DON’T take a shower before you do thisWinking smile

Becca and I both love our plain Greek yogurt. Please don’t buy the sugar loaded version, just add your own sweetener and fruit or make our recipe below!!  These ingredients are always in my house so I have no excuse not to grab something healthy when I’m hungry.  This also travels well just keep the cereal on the side!

Yogurt Crunch!

1 cup of Plain Greek yogurt

Any fruit – strawberries, bananas, and blueberries are my favorite

1/4 cup of Kashi Go lean crunch

any sweetener of your choice

and the secret ingredient is Chia seeds, if you haven’t tried these wonderful little seeds you must!  There are so many reasons you will love them, go here for the health benefits of the chia seed.  Try Chia seeds in your yogurt, oatmeal, smoothies, even pancake batter (your kids will never know).

Who doesn’t love the weekend? For most of us it means extra family time, fun activities, and often extra food!  When you are trusting God in the journey to make good choices it doesn’t mean you are off the hook and you won’t be tempted left and right.  Here are a couple tricks that help keep us on our healthy journey and not ruin all our hard work on the weekend!

#1 Stop, drop, and think – Am I hungry?  Is it worth it?  Can I just have a little and stop?  If you answer yes to all these then move on to step 2. If you answer No to any walk away!!

#2 “Everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial”  Is what you are about to put in your body going to benefit or harm it?

#3 Lastly, enjoy it! If you honestly ask yourself these questions and you still want what ever it is then enjoy it.  Everything in moderation is the only way to make changes that will last the rest of your life.

So stop, drop, and think before you eat and stay focused on your goals!

“if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Give God 2013

This is just a mason jar with a little quote “Let go Let God!”  it’s surrounded with bible verses I’ve hand written that have impacted me and are my reminders from God.   let go let God jar_thumb[4]

Such as “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”  2 Corinthians 3:17

“22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:21-2 and many more.

I’ve started putting my struggles at the feet of God knowing that I can do all things in His strength rather then being frustrated and struggling in my own.  This will sit in our kitchen as a reminder to rely on God in 2013 not just for me but for my whole family.  I hope we fill it to the brim with all our fears, worries, and stress.  Then next year on January 1st, 2014 we can all look back and see how awesome and faithful God has been taking our burden’s and making them light!

29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:29-30

Happy New Year, ShannonWinking smile

Set Your Goals!

This is us Becca on the left and me, Shannon on the right.  Not our best look, we would much rather be seen as fashionable, hot moms but this picture means so much more then meets the eye!  becca and shannon

We are cousins and I’ve looked up to Becca since I can remember.  Becca is two years older then me and I’ve always thought of her as a sister.  Our lives are full of crazy stories and many highs and lows which we plan on sharing as we journal our story, but back to this picture.  It all started with a dream.

Becca’s husband and brother have done a ‘kind-of’ team triathlon for the past several years that consists of a 1 mile sprint, a 1.5 mile canoe, a 14 mile bike ride, and finishes with a 5k.  It all started with a challenge from the boys that we could never beat them.  So we signed up and we began to train.

We put in the work, we sprinted, we ran far, we lifted weights, and even borrowed friends bikes since we both haven’t rode bikes since elementary school!  We started out slow but we got stronger and faster quicker then we ever thought possible and it was time to beat the boys!

This is the day that two moms in their mid 30’s came in second place for the female teams.  The boys only beat us by a couple minutes but you could tell they were scared and probably would have rather died on the course then get beat by us!  The moral of this story is focus on your dream, do the work, and I promise you will have success!

With Love, Shannon

Leftovers–Stomach or trash?

half eaten cake

I spent 33 years of my life never wanting to “waste” food until this question came to me while staring at the most delicious leftover birthday cake.  Is the left over birthday cake better in my stomach or the trash?  Is eating it really NOT wasting it?  Wow….can we say epiphany?  Birthday’s, parties, special events, and the like are wonderful celebrations and usually come with wonderful food that is terrific on occasion but not for 3 to 4 days following the event.  Here’s my new rules for parties and any time “treats” land themselves in my kitchen.  If baking your all time favorite dessert is going to cause you undue stress and over consumption “DON’T MAKE IT”  try making something you can’t sample before you even get to the party, such as cookies and bars.  Whatever you do don’t bring home leftovers and if the event is at your house give it away to those wonderfully skinny people who don’t have to worry about itSmile with tongue out  Then if you still end up with leftovers you have three options.  #1 Let you and your family consume unhealthy amounts of sugar and fat for the next couple days, #2 Freeze it in tiny portions for a later time when you need something sweet and rather then baking an entire bach of something that little frozen cookie might just hit the spot.  #3 Throw it away – easier said then done but try it it’s soooo empowering!!!  Tell me what your tricks are?
