Just Like That

It’s over, summer is gone and I’m sad!  It went so quickly.  I had such great expectations but it flew past in a whirlwind!!
I have the timehop app on my phone and it’s killing me!

Yup, that boy in the top picture that is almost as tall as my husband, this was his 1st day of Kindergarten!  Where does it go? Time just keeps flying by!!

Don’t let this life slip past.  I know God has great plans for anyone that will trust Him, seek Him and forget what they can do but look at what God can do with your life!!

It makes me think about the day I will stand before God.
“For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body.”
2 Corinthians 5:10

“You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.
It is written: “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.'”
So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.” Romans 14:10-12

Will I have wished I lived differently? Will I have wished I loved more? I don’t want life to pass me by in a whirlwind and I don’t want to be consumed by things that don’t matter in the end.

So as a new school year begins I want to live purposefully, set my goals high, and live each day seeking God and His will for my life!

I was so busy this summer with my businesses and kids that I’ve allowed my time with God not be my priority.  In turn my eating wasn’t great and workouts were here and there but not as consistent and I feel it and see it.  It’s amazing how these three elements- Faith, Food, and Fitness, truly affect every aspect of your life.

It is so easy to NOT spend time with God, to NOT exercise, and to NOT eat well.  Trust me Satan loves when we are in this place and he wants us to stay there.  Know that God has so much more for us!!! When we spend time with Him we can hear His voice, He can guide our lives, and He gives us peace, love, and joy that surpasses all understanding!

When we exercise we are taking care of the body God has given us and exercise greatly affect our quality of life.

You are never to old to exercise and remember if you don’t use it, you lose it!

This will be a bit harsh but it is the truth.  God designed amazing food for us to consume.  He also gave us these incredible bodies that use His amazing food to nourish us with vitamins and nutrients to keep us strong!!  Food has become so processed with syrups, dyes, and chemicals that it’s no longer food.  These other products are making our world sick, causing people to over indulged, and because of the lack of nutrients our bodies will never be satisfied.

  This is not how God designed us to operate and I know when I’m not taking the time to spend time with God everything else falls apart!!

Is food or fitness something you struggle with? I challenge you to stop.

Here is your challenge…spend time with God..get alone (even if it’s in the bathroom) lose distractions and cry out to God.  Repent of being sucked into this world and it’s desires.  Ask for Him to change you, one day at a time, one choice at a time, and let Him know you want to experience who He created you to be!! Prayer changes everything!!

  So DON’T give up, start fresh, and next time you don’t want to exercise or you don’t know what to eat, ask the one who made you and designed you perfectly to help you!!!

I Can’t Take the Pressure!

I’m just God’s girl, still flawed and imperfect doing the best I can!  This week has had highs…

I started a running club with a friend at my childrens school this week! It was a huge success and I’m excited to make excercise fun for over 50 kids.

On the other side I am stressed, swimming in a sea of to do lists!  Tonight I tried to cook a new awesome dinner.  My whole family turned up their noses and I lost it in a pile of tears!

I put a lot of pressure on myself and sometimes I crumble under it and I have to remind myself I’m human.  I don’t have it all together. I’m not always happy, my house isn’t spotless, I order pizza sometimes, I don’t always “eat clean”, and I cry when I’m overwhelmed but this truth always remains!

No matter what is happening around me God is my constant.  He has been with me on the mountain tops and in deep valleys but I will not be moved!

So tonight as I regroup…I’m going to take some of my own advice.
One hour at a time…do the best I can with what I have…. Rest in God’s strength…. and remember I’m a hot mess on my own!!

So for anyone who thought for a second I have it all together…I can’t take the pressure!!

I am just God’s girl, flawed and imperfect, doing the best I can and when all else fails I just bake cookies!

God’s Comfort Food

With every year that passes the Winters seem to get colder and colder, or maybe I’m just getting older and older!! These cold and bitter temperatures can also be a trap for me to constantly crave “Comfort Foods” and of course wanting to hibernate at 4:50am when my alarm goes off for the gym!

Two things I’ve learned throughout this Winter:

1. You need a group of FRIENDs or a cousin named Shannon to motivate you to get out of bed in the morning to workout!

I can’t tell you how many times I would have gone back to bed this winter when it was -5 below, if it was not for the amazing group of women braving the same cold temperatures waiting for me at the gym.

2. First and foremost true comfort and grace can only be found when you seek and ask God to fill you with his Holy Spirit!

Yes “Comfort Food” tastes good while you are eating it, but that euphoric feeling is only temporary. True lasting comfort, joy and peace come from God’s complete filling of his Spirit in you!!

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with it’s passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” Galatians 5: 22-26

Spring and warm weather are right around the corner! I pray for the comfort and filling of the Holy Spirit who can joyfully get me through the next couple of weeks of cold weather! I know when I walk in step with my creator I crave the healthy foods and desire to get to the gym all for His glory!

“May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.” 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

Next time you are craving some good old fashioned “Comfort Food” try this clean healthy version of “Shepherd’s Pie.” My whole family loved this so much that it was gone before I could take a picture!!

Love your Body!

How about we try something new this week.  Love your body!  No one is perfect we all have strengths and weaknesses but don’t try and eat good and exercise because you hate your body.  Do it because you can and because you want to learn to love the vessel you have been given to get through this life!

I challenge you to just love your body this week with two simple tricks.

#1 Move your body – Here is a great benchmark challenge.  Try this and write down your results.  As you make loving your body a priority it WILL get stronger day by day!!

#2 Eat your veggies!!

This is a new favorite recipe of mine that I could eat every day!  I always keep baked chicken in my fridge and when I cook it I always cook some veggies to keep on hand as well.  This recipe calls for spaghetti squash that I just split in half, scoop out the seeds, spray with olive oil and roast at 325 for 45 minutes with the chicken.  The broccoli is from a freezer steam fresh bag.  When you have all the food prepped this recipe only takes minutes to throw together!

New favorite product alert!!! I’m not sure how I lived with out this but I’ve added it to eggs, stir-fry,  and even just thrown on plain chicken.  The options are endless and for only 35 calories it adds creamy deliciousness!

Are you ready to stop the battle and just love your body?

“Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?  You are not your own;   you were bought with a price. Therefore, honor God with your body.”
1 Corinthians 6:19-20

You Can’t Do This Alone!

Have you tried to eat healthy, tried to read your bible, and tried to exercise but have failed?
What is missing? What is the key piece to actually making lasting changes in your life?  Here are my key pieces to the puzzle!

#1 – God – Do you believe?  Do you know God loves you? Do you know He cares about every detail of your life?  He wants us to seek Him and rest in Him “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”  Matthew 11:28. This is no joke, He has done it in my life!!  You have to believe, you have to ask Him to take ALL your burdens, and you have to trust Him and He will carry you!

#2 Friends – Ask God to surround you with support!  Friends that can walk this road with you are priceless!  A good friend will encourage you to be healthy and the best version of you, they will inspire you to seek God, and they will help the hard days be better! Becca has been with me since the beginning!  This is Becca, me, and my always skinny sister (no hard feelings, love her to death).  We were in high school here, and the struggle was real!

#3 Determination – without determination you will never succeed.  If you say “maybe” or “a little of this won’t hurt” or “I’ll get to it later” all these wishy washy emotions will cause you to fall!  You have to set your mind that FAILURE is NOT an option.  Satan loves when we say “maybe” because that is weakness.  He loves when we doubt because that is where he can mess us up.

Seek God, pray to be surrounded with great people to encourage you, and move through the day with determination!!!

For the “Love” of Food

I would definitely say that I am a full fledged foodie at heart, always have and always will be. I remember 4 years ago, when I started having health issues, I thought I could never go without gluten, sugar and dairy! It’s crazy how hard it is to have to limit myself, everyone just wants what they want when they want it. I’ve been reading the book of Acts and I look at all of the pain and suffering that Paul endured to spread the good news “that the Messiah would suffer and, as the first to rise from the dead, would proclaim light to his own people and to the Gentiles.” Acts 26:23. Paul had one care and it was to share all that God had done, by sending his only son so we could be saved. His pain and suffering is more than I could ever imagine and definitely makes me realize that my health issues are very trivial in terms of Paul’s life and the pain Jesus endured on the cross so we could be saved.

Having said that I still had to find a healthy way to eliminate these foods from my diet and make it a lifestyle where I did not feel I was missing out all the time. I believe God uses these things in our lives to show us that through him all things are possible and through Christ who strengthens us we can do all things!!

So I quickly developed a passion for taking my favorite foods and making them fit into my new lifestyle. Every week my husband and I find new recipes to try. He is the master chef and I alter the ingredients to make them healthy for our whole family!

I’m going to start with one of my favorite foods, homemade chocolate chip cookies, in particular the “Tollhouse Recipe” on the bag!! I think we finally nailed it this past weekend. Believe it or not we only substituted 3 ingredients, sugar, white flour and chocolate chips with honey, spelt flour and “Enjoy Life” Chocolate Chips.

I tested them out at our Bible Study this past weekend and everyone including the kids kept coming back for seconds. Check out the pictures below and the recipe! Healthy Chocolate Chip Cookies
2 1/4 cups of Spelt Flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of sea salt
1 cup of honey
2 sticks of organic butter
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
2 large eggs
1 bag of “Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips”
1 cup walnuts

Move Your Body!!

If you don’t exercise, you don’t like to exercise, or you wish you had more motivation when you exercise this is for you!

Here are some tips and tricks to get excited to move your body!

#1 Make a realistic plan– get a journal, here is mine.

It’s tattered and torn but it has workouts (4 good workouts shown), bible verses, meal plans, and water and food stains throughout.  I right down moves, reps, and even what muscles were sore the next day.  Having a plan and setting goals gives you something to achieve and work towards. Not to mention it shows you how far you’ve come!  My old workout that I called “Insane Workout” is a walk in the park now!

#2 Get a friend – or 2 or 3 when Becca and I started working out it was just the two of us. It gives you accountability, encouragement, and a little competition pushes you to do more then you would on your own.

#3 No Excuses – Everyone can come up with reasons not to exercise.  I will give you 1,000 reasons why you need to but here are my top reasons.  #1 God gave you an amazing body (same as an Olympic athlete) and if you don’t use it you lose it!   #2 the benefits are endless- more energy, better brain function, you feel good, look good, which rolls over into being a better mom, wife, friend, and employee #3 God cares about how we take care of our body and if you don’t believe me just pray “Lord please give me the motivation to exercise” and look out!  #4 It’s Fun – when you find activities you love, people you love, and keep trying something new it really becomes fun!

swim workout This morning a few of my amazing friends did a swim workout (Melissa and Amy the girls in the back both swam in college so they couldn’t wait to kick my butt in the pool).  It was something new and scary (because I sink better than I swim) but it was fun and they got us special pink swim caps for the occasion!!

#4 Just Do It – Don’t over think it and just move every day!  Try some of my 2 minute challenges at Shannonclelli on Instagram or on our You Tube Channel linked above!  Before long exercise will be a great habit, like brushing your teeth!

On your mark, get set, go!!!
