WATER – “Why is it so important?”

Drop Falling into Water

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve heard many stats on water and the importance that it plays in our lives on so many levels.  We drink it, we cook with it, we use it to wash everything.  Our world is made of of 2/3rd’s water and up to 60% of the adult human body is comprised of water!  God made water so important to our bodies, that in just a couple of days you could die without enough water.  I guess the question becomes then, “How much water do we really need? ”  I’ve seen many different and complicated answers to this question and in truth, God is probably the only one who knows how much we really need.  A simple and easy way to make sure you are getting enough water is to take your body weight in pounds and divide it by 2.  That’s it and all the water you need to stay hydrated and keep your body healthy!  If you weigh 150 pounds, you need 75 ounces of water per day.  I started to follow this rule about 3 1/2 years ago and I can’t tell you how much better I feel.  On work-out days I actually tend to drink a little more,  especially on the days I workout with Shannon.

  • An easy tip is to measure how much water is in your favorite water bottle and then know how many times you have to fill it up daily.

Bottle

This same rule applies to your children!  I know a challenge for me and my 6 year old is always making sure she drinks enough water, especially while she is at school.  Recently we had her do an activity where she figured out how much her body needs in a given day, measured out her bottles and shared with her the importance of staying hydrated.  We have even started giving her rewards when she comes home with an empty water bottle.   (I’m praying she is not dumping it out in school, but the rewards seem to be helping!)

God used WATER in so many different ways throughout the bible!  He flooded the earth during the days of Noah!  Moses parted the “Red Sea” to deliver his people.  The stories of water playing a significant role in the bible are endless.  I have to say that for me, most importantly, water is a symbolism of Baptism.  Last September, after much prayer and consideration my husband and I decided to get Baptized together.  We had both been baptized as children however we wanted to fully commit our lives to God.  The bible states in Acts 2:38 ” Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.  And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”  We were both ready to take that next step and proclaim Jesus the Messiah as the only one who can cleanse us of our sins and renew our faith!!    We are both still works in progress, but accepting Jesus as our Savior and getting Baptized as adults has truly changed us!

So my prayer for everyone is that you seek God daily and find out why ” WATER” is so important in your life, not just from a physical perspective, but from a spiritual perspective.  I truly believe that He would not have made water so significant in every aspect of our lives, just because!!  Stay healthy spiritually and physically, make sure you drink your daily dose of water in His word and in your glass!!!
