The Reason We Do What We Do

Get Ready we’ve got a Weekend Challenge for you……

It’s not a crazy workout or an insane cleanse (lol… gross)!

It is time to figure out

Why you do What you Do?

Do you ever think about why you do any of the things you do?  What drives you, what motivates you, what holds your priorities and why?  Is it money, what others think of you, pride, fear, love, or is it what God thinks of you that motivates you in all you do?

This week I (Shannon) was learning about angels and how God’s angels worship Him all their days and go and do whatever He asks them to.  God’s angels protect us, help us, guide us, and answer our prayers as God directs them.  I want to be just like the angels, in that I want to worship God and go and do whatever He asks me to, and have Him be the only reason I do what I do.

When we stand before God one day (which everyone will) will our reasons “we do what we do” be worth it?

You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. It is written: ” ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.’ “So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God ( Romans 14:10-12 )

My (Shannon’s) biggest struggle right now is not allowing my health and fitness to become my idol. I need to keep remembering that this isn’t about me but about giving glory to God and showing the world what amazing things He can do with your life when you give it to Him!

I (Becca) have been struggling in this area in a different way.   These past weeks have been crazy I’ve been stressed with my job, I worry about my kids and husband, and we are in the middle of renovating our home in addition to just managing the everyday aspects of life. I’m exhausted and stressed and I know it’s not what God wants for me. This week I was reading the book of Isaiah Chapter 44 and it was talking about Idols and a Carpenter who took wood and used it for fire for warmth and to help prepare his meal and the rest he used for an Idol.  I was thinking to myself, how crazy that back in the biblical times so many people idolized so many things, like fake gods, statues and even wood?  I was thinking to myself, how crazy, why would anyone  worship a piece of wood???   Then it hit me like a lightening bolt, my worries were the carpenters wood! When I allow all of my worries to consume my life, they quickly become my idol and a distraction from God’s plan for my life.

I then re-read a great verse in 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 that I must have highlighted quite some time ago:

” Therefore we do not lose heart.  Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.  For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.  So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen.  For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

I need to stop worrying about all of these little problems, give them to God, not let them become my idol and fix my eyes on Him and His eternal plan for me!!  So moral of the story, my plan this weekend is to give my idols to God and let Him be the reason I do all that I do.

“For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; it is he who will save us.”  Isaiah 33:22

We can’t wait to hear what you discover on this quest to find “Why you do what you do?”
